My opinions on HS2 are well known: I was unconvinced that HS2 represented the best way of relieving existing pressure on the rail network and generating new capacity. I was also unconvinced about the journey-time, environmental and economic benefits of HS2. It is disappointing that the review of the project carried out by Douglas Oakervee strongly advised against cancelling HS2, and that in light of this judgement, the Government decided to press ahead with the project. However, the decision has been made and therefore I need to focus on current and future issues.
