Thank you to those who have contacted me regarding levels of executive pay within big business.
I appreciate that after the financial crisis especially, this issue has become very important to many, and these excesses can present real risks to our society. That being said I believe that we must consider the importance of free markets and the ability for big businesses to act autonomously.
It is for this reason that I support the government’s pragmatic approach to this issue. This includes increasing transparency to the UK executive framework, requiring shareholder approval. I shall continue to look at legislation in this area and consider it on its merits at that point.
