Thank you to those who have written to me about environmental regulations.
Especially on the Island we have some of the most beautiful countryside in the UK and I am delighted that Government has a clear commitment to protecting it. Until we leave the European Union, the existing arrangements remain in place. Leaving the EU, however, means that we can tailor policy to best protect our environment and countryside, instead of following a one-size-fits all approach for 28 different countries.
I am proud of the Government’s record in creating and improving habitats, and I welcome the commitment to plant 11 million more trees by 2020, the continued investment in cleaner technologies and the leading role our government played in the Paris Climate Change Conference. It is for these reasons that I am optimistic in a continued focus on environmental issues post-Brexit and I shall lobby the government to remain so.
