The Isle of Wight Council has been praised for its efficiency in distributing Government support grants to Island businesses during the latest lockdown.
Island MP Bob Seely and Chief Executive of the IW Chamber of Commerce, Steven Holbrook, both expressed their thanks and praise to the council for the speed at which the Local Restrictions Support Grant Fund and the Additional Restrictions Grant were distributed to the Island’s business community.
The two grants – issued last month - were put in place firstly to support businesses required to close due to government regulations, and secondly, to support businesses that while able to open were nevertheless severely impacted by lockdown.
Steven Holbrook said: “This has been a very difficult year for businesses, and they need all the support they can get.
“Receiving support grants quickly is so important because it could actually be the difference between a business surviving or closing.
“I would like to thank the IW Council for their efficiency in distributing this latest round of support grants and ultimately helping Island businesses stay afloat.”
Bob said he was pleased that the money had got through to businesses so quickly.
He said: “I am grateful to the council for the speed at which these grants were distributed. Businesses are having a tough time at the moment so getting this money quickly will help to ease the pressures they are under.
“I hope that with the national restrictions lifting, Island businesses can benefit from a good Christmas trading period.”
